In 2007, students and their families were officially welcomed to the university at New Student Convocation and Festifall. In the Amazing Warrior Challenge, students formed teams with their peer mentor to compete. A classroom discussion led by faculty members helped students understand how to take effective notes in class. At the end of the program, teams discussed academic success initiatives to assist them in their first semester. Finally, prizes and awards were distributed to teams for their participation in iStart. Prizes included $1,000 and $500 tuition grants.
New students and their families joined us for the first day of iStart: 2008 for New Student Convocation and Festifall. That evening, students participated in teambuilding activities and then a social activity in Keast Commons. On the second day of iStart, students participated in the summer reading book discussion, learned how to take effective notes and manage their time as new college students. Warrior Service Day, the third day of iStart, began with more than 600 new students doing community service around Wayne State's campus. The program ended with attendance at Wayne State's first football game of the year and the drawing of one lucky winner's name for a year of free tuition!
We welcome our fall 2009 incoming freshman class! Registration for this year's iStart will be posted soon!
